Israel Kamakawiwo`ole, a Hawaiian artist who possessed great talent in music playing the ukelele was honored: Male Vocalist of the Yearby the Hawai‘i Academy of Recording Arts , Favorite Entertainer of the Year, Album of the Year, and Island Contemporary Album of the Year. He was fondly called as "The Gentle Giant" weighing over 750 pounds (340 kilograms) @ one point in his life. He died June 26, 1997 at 12:18 a.m. at the age of 38.
