San Miguel Archangel Church, Argao, Cebu, Philippines
church bell tower- 2003
This was taken in one of our research undertakings with the group CHF (Cebu Heritage Frontier). We were then doing some cultural mapping in this serene but lovely place called Argao. Actually, we did four towns: Argao, Dalagute, Oslob and Boljo-on. All of them are located south of Cebu province. The CHF team was composed of four (4) research leaders(Architects) with each an assistant (architecture undergrad). For each town mentioned, a set of researcher (architect+assistant) went over each town's historical data, mapped the site and identified most if not all significant aspects whether a street, a marker or a structure. This made quite a stir at first to the residents of the place. Imagine two new faces walking along a road side bringing along a folder and a pencil with the heads moving from one point to the other as if hunting for a deer. A whole lot of interactions took place while mind-setting the community in reconnecting their past to this moment. But with the harmonious help of the town folks and with the full support of the munipality officials including of course the mayor everyone contributed their time and effort thus we did our job smoothly. A leaflet is now out as a reference guide to its rich and colorful preserved Argao heritage. A million thanks to you! (Note: Separate leaflets too are out as well for the towns of Dalagute, Oslob and Boljo-on. They are available for your inquiring minds @ Casa Gorordo, Cebu City.
church entry door at the back.
A very old gate dating back to the Spanish occupation here (late 1800's). This is now preserved through the efforts of the the Argaoanons themselves. (Note:Please excuse the low resoulution shots made here and onwards, thank you).
Few members of the CHF team- except Alex (center- standing) owner of Alex Cafe where we had the sumptous and ever famous "torta"!
