Smile!

Smile, though your heart is aching
Smile, even though it's breaking
When there are clouds in the sky
You'll get by...

If you smile
With your fear and sorrow
Smile and maybe tomorrow
You'll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just...

Light up your face with gladness
Hide every trace of sadness
Although a tear may be ever so near
That's the time you must keep on trying
Smile, what's the use of crying
You'll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just...

Smile, though your heart is aching
Smile, even though it's breaking
When there are clouds in the sky
You'll get by...

If you smile
Through your fear and sorrow
Smile and maybe tomorrow
You'll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just smile...

That's the time you must keep on trying
Smile, what's the use of crying
You'll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just smile.

Ako ay Pilipino

Buong katapatang nanunumpa

Sa watawat ng Pilipinas

At sa bansang kanyang sinasagisag

Na may dangal, katarungan at kalayaan

Na pinapakilos ng sambayanang

Maka-Diyos

Makakalikasan

Makatao, at

Makabansa.

This is our new Pledge of Allegiance. I say- new- because it was not so long ago yet that we had a different version of it. It used to go like this: Iniibig ko ang Pilipinas- It was changed to this new one on June 12 1996 by our former president: Pres. Fidel V. Ramos, adopted and institutionalized as our official oath of Allegiance for all Filipinos, as a way of commemorating the centennial of the proclamation of our Philippine Independence last 1998.

One funny anecdote I should tell you about this Pledge thing. It happened just last week. As you know, government offices always sing the national anthem and recite the pledge unceasingly every Monday of every week @ 8:00 oclock in the morning before any official business can be taken cared of. And it was our department's turn to do the ritual. Unfortunately, the ones assigned were late so our department head requested some other persons one after the other, but in vain. I thought i would do it but!-shame on me I cannot recite it either. So apologies were laid out in the open. Okay, I know it was not supposed to be funny, but mind you it was my first Five (5) days in government service! What an excuse huh ;-)

Anyway, I am now quite adept with it that I might volunteer to do it in the near future, say you? By the way, can you recite it too? As in right here- right now?
